Coffee and Sleep

I read this article this morning on EatingWell.com's website. I have been trying to cut out coffee the last few days for various reasons. The main reason I've been successful is because I ran out of sugar and haven't had a chance to get to the store but I'm thinking that's a good thing. I've been feeling like I need to give it up for a while but have been very reluctant to do so. I still am truth be told. So anyway, with all of that I found this article very interesting, something to consider anyway.

Though I Stumble...

The imagery that comes to mind when I hear these lyrics is one of a child. A little girl with short, blonde ringlets or a little boy with eyes wide and fascinated with their new world. They're running as they explore, fast as their little feet can take them and... they fall. They're hurt, they're broken hearted and they don't know what went wrong. But they see Daddy and they know He loves them. So they run again, only not out into the world but to their Daddy whose simple kiss and touch as he wipes away their tears will mend their wounds. Do you know that you have a Daddy in heaven who loves you? He is the Daddy of all Daddies and His touch can mend the deepest broken heart. His kiss can restore what was broken and help you see what went wrong and how, with His help it can be fixed. So run to Him, run into His arms! "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Psalm 147:3 Isaiah 61 and Luke 4 tells us that this is what He was sent for. I can attest to His power to heal a broken heart. I've had to rely on it many times. When I'm hurt and broken I go runnin'.

Wedding:: Mary Beth and Jonathan

I had the privilege of photographing the wedding of Mary Beth and Jonathan last weekend. It was a beautiful event. It was a short, sweet ceremony filled with lots of love and laughter from friends and family.

As I photograph weddings I have the opportunity to step into my clients lives, into a very special and personal occasion. I feel so privileged to have this bird's eye view into their lives. And as I watch them and document these special occasions I get to know them a bit. I get to know their families and I witness the love that is exchanged. My heart warms as I observe these exchanges. Often I'm carried back in my thoughts to my own family and fond memories. I watch as Daddies and Grandpas dance the first dance with their "little girl" and as if that alone is not enough, they always play a song that yanks at your heart strings so I literally have to choke back the tears as my eyes well up so that I can see clearly to capture the moment.

All of this holds true for what I witnessed of Mary Beth and Jonathan and their beautiful families who have now become one. And the best part of all that I witnessed on their special day was the love and interactions of Mary Beth and Jonathan with one little girl and one little boy, who it's obvious, they both love so much. You have a beautiful family you two!! It warmed my heart to be a part of your special day. Thank you for the privilege to serve you! I pray many, many blessings on your family and the years to come. Grandpa's Fiddle

My Grandpa played the fiddle. In his younger days he rivaled Charlie Daniels. He had an invitation at age 19 to play at the Opry House but turned the offer down because he didn't want to leave home. I loved to hear my Grandpa play. I have memories as a child of he and family and friends getting together with instruments and playing music for hours. I also remember falling asleep one afternoon as I laid on the living room floor listening to him on the fiddle and my Mom on the piano.

After he passed away my Grandmother went through some of his old things and gave them to the various kids and grandkids. She gave me one of his old fiddles. It's not in the best shape of its life but it is beautiful. The wear that this instrument shows is what makes it so beautiful. So I've been wanting to photograph it for a while but having two small children I hesitated, God forbid something might happen. So I finally got it out a few weeks ago and got up close and personal, documenting the beautiful lines and detail work of this piece. This is my favorite shot of it. I think I will eventually get it enlarged and hang it on my wall. I just envision it looking so beautiful there.

My Football Players

It's official. My boys are now football players. Anyone who has known them... and my husband of course, has known that they would be. Why, one of the first t-shirts I ever bought them said "Made 4 Football" so it's no surprise. I just can't believe how fast the time has gone. They are playing flag football and their football career began about 3 weeks ago. I just did pictures for the football program on Tuesday so here they are for the first time in their uniforms. Aren't they cute?!?!

Gearing Up...

The Fall is quickly sneaking up on us. So that means it's time to start planning for Fall Family Fotos. This is also a great opportunity to not only get beautiful pictures of the family but to also get your Christmas cards done. It's just one more thing you can check off the to do list.

I will be announcing when the Fall Family Foto Day will be very soon. Here is one sample of the great, customized Christmas card designs we have available to choose from.

Just for the record, I prefer Merry Christmas myself. I didn't even notice the Seasons Greetings until now. :)

Amazing Grace - The Black Keys

I was sent a link to the video below in an email recently. I wasn't exactly sure what it was when I first opened it but as I listened to the story that is told of how the song Amazing Grace came to be I was moved to tears. Tears of joy at the thought of how amazing Grace is, in my life and in the lives of so many others through history, tears at the thought of the hardships and horrors that so many have faced and tears at the thought that through it all God, in his amazing Grace is able to bring freedom to all people and bring them together.

The man in the video tells of John Newton as the man who wrote the words to the song Amazing Grace. This reminded of the movie by the same name. I watched it several months ago. It's the story of William Wilberforce played by Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic 4). Wilberforce led the twenty-year fight to end the British slave trade. Amazing Grace is the story of his fight to abolish slavery. John Newton (the man who wrote Amazing Grace) however, was a mentor to William Wilberforce and as a result the movie gives insight into Newton's story as well and his conversion from being a slave trader to a minister and abolitionist and then how he came to write Amazing Grace. It's a beautiful story of how only God could take something so ugly and turn it into something beautiful. So here is the video I just watched and if you haven't already, take the time to watch Amazing Grace also.

Portrait Session:: Ashlea and Brooklynn

I had the privilege of photographing Ashlea and her friend, Brooklynn. Ashlea has been a friend of my little brother's since they were in elementary school and she and her mother have become very good friends of the family. Ashlea was just a cute little girl when I first met her and now she has grown into a beautiful young woman. And she is a natural in front of the camera. Girls, I hope you had fun on our photo outing and hopefully the heat and bugs weren't too terrible. Enjoy your pictures! This is just a sampling. You can view the full gallery here.

What a beautiful smile.

A bug jumped up at her and I just happened to catch it. I thought it made for a cute pic. The girls were real troopers considering it was extremely hot and there were bugs all over. Nobody ever tells you how glamorous modeling isn't. :)

Brooklyn was a real pro too. I think she thought I was a little crazy a time or two but they were both so easy to work with.

So I love details and this skirt was just so cute. Had to snap a shot.

We had actually finished up shooting but as we were leaving I couldn't resist but catch this shot. The sunlight over the hill was just way too beautiful to pass up.

And this one might just be my favorite from the day. Ashlea is so working it and the lighting and all, it just made for such a beautiful, dramatic picture.

Again... details, the cute little skirts and sandals. Love it!

I'm telling ya, do these girls have it going on or what?

Headed out Ashlea found a couple of these little guys. I've never seen frogs so tiny.

I wanted to get a couple indoor shots so this is back at the house.

Spirit of Truth

Miscellaneous Cake Inspiration

The following are a few cake designs that didn't seem to fit into any of the other categories. So here they are.

This first one is really cute. It's very festive I think. It makes me think of the 4th of July with the stars and the twirly things. Somehow it's pretty too.

I love this next one. While I think I would prefer to have some color I just love the design. You could always add color to it. Like the outer dot could be your theme color or vice versa or even make the cake itself your color and then leave the dots white. The possibilities are endless!!

This one is pretty. Very traditional I think.

I absolutely love this one. I think this is my favorite of all of the cakes we've look at. I am obsessed with these beautiful, bright flowers and the simple, yet elegant swirls on the cake are great too. Just beautiful!

This one is nice too. i particularly like the brown swirls. I think different flowers might be more complimentary to it though.

This one is a little plain to me, it's missing something. Maybe a little swirly design around the sides like the one above with the bright flowers, would finish it off. Yes, I think that might do it. And a little darker pink in the flowers too.

This one is nice. Simple yet elegant. Not overdone but not underdone either. Very nice.

Why Does Wedding Photography Cost So Much?

Wow! My brain is on overload. I just read an article that another photographer shared a link to from a bride who explains that she took the "cheap photographer route". Very good article. There was a blog post which she mentions early on in her article that sparked all kinds of debate over the prices that wedding photographers charge. Both are very educational. I answer for why I charge what I charge in my FAQ.

And just because every post is better with a picture here is a picture of Isaiah a few weeks ago when we had snow on the ground.

Cupcake Inspiration

I am really liking the cupcake idea. It's new, unique, cute, trendy and easy. I was so surprised the first time I saw them at a wedding but was immediately thrilled with the idea. Maybe it wouldn't work for every setting, the real formal, elegant setting but hey for a sweet, casual wedding it's great I think. And maybe I'm wrong too. With the right cake decorator I bet they could make absolutely gorgeous cupcakes too that would fit the most elegant of situations.

Green Cake Inspiration

Continuing with a look at wedding cake decoration we're looking at green cakes. I don't know that there's anything environmentally friendly about them but they are green in color. There is no real rhyme or reason to the color classifications except that it seemed like a good way to organize the topic of cake discussion.

I love these cupcakes. They're so pretty and look incredibly yummy!! The cupcake trend is becoming increasingly popular.

This one is pretty. I think they flowers are little overdone for my taste, just a little too big but the pink and green together is very nice. I love the dots and ribbons.

I like this one. It's simple but pretty.

The lighting in this particular picture could have been better but I like the cake. The little daisies are a nice touch.

The colors in this cake are pretty, again the pink and green together is nice.

Pink Cake Inspiration

Here we are again with another episode of cake inspiration. Such a tasty topic, it gets my mouth to watering.

Speaking of, I've ordered some Dolce infused, white chocolate covered truffles from Crumb de la Crumb for this weekend. There are multiple reasons to celebrate this weekend. My husband's birthday is Sunday, my sister and her family are coming up for the weekend from Florida, their anniversary is Monday and Saturday we're having an exciting event at my husband's shop (www.CycleStuffInc.com). Come out if you can. Jim N' Nick's BBQ is catering the event and will be giving away their new Southern Style Tacos which my husband and I have personally tasted to ensure deliciousness.

So anyway, I just felt like some of these truffles from Crumb de la Crumb were in line. I first tasted them a couple weeks ago at a vendor networking meeting I attended. It was truly love at first bite. I saw my life in food flash before my eyes as I just knew I had died and gone to heaven. So try them out. They're $18 for a dozen. Tell 'em Crystal sent ya.

I love this first cake. The colors are just beautiful I think. So trendy too. The little couple on top is so cute too.

This next one is simply elegant I think.

Bridesmaid Savings at David's Bridal

David's Bridal is having this special through March 23rd so it won't last long but hey, every savings I can pass along, I will. There are some really cute dresses here and I love the fact that trends are leaning toward bridesmaid dresses that REALLY CAN be worn again. Now I understand that some of these aren't going to work for every body type but if you want to you can find a dress to work for any of your girls that they can wear again. With that in mind I also like the trend that has been picking up speed, of having each girl wear a different style, they're all the same color but a different cut, shape, etc. Because after all most of us are different cuts, shapes, etc.

I love this little sundress idea for a spring or summer wedding. This one also comes in a real pretty blue flowered pattern.

Ok, I've always been a sucker for deep rose red. This is a really cute dress.

And who can't use a little black dress?

Love the color of this one, yes it's my blue. And as I look at her shoes I'm reminded of that commercial where the high heels are talking to the girl and she says, "shut up and get on my feet". That's what I'm thinking about these shoes. Love 'em!!

This one is pretty simple but it is cute and for a casual summer wedding would be perfect.

Blue Cake Inspiration

Okay, so I mentioned I was going to take a detour from wedding gown design for a little bit and look into cake design for inspiration for all of our brides-to-be out there. I started off categorizing them by color. I don't know why, it just seemed like a good way to organize, that's all. So without further ado let's take a look at our first selection of wedding cake design ideas.

This first one is just beautiful. Very classic yet trendy at the same time.

Honestly, I can't make up my mind if I like this one or not. You know I think it would be a really nice looking cake if whoever taking the picture had placed it on a different background. The black is taking away from it I think. When I look just at the cake, it's cute.

I think this one is pretty, along the same lines as the one above with the same color combination and all but it's a touch classier I think.

This one is very pretty. I love the colors and again it has the classic yet trendy look.

This one is so creative. Very pretty, yet cute and whimsical at the same time. What artistry. I love the blue and green together.

And this one, when I look at the design itself I like it. There is something about the colors though that is kind of throwing it off for me. And I love blue and brown together so I'm not sure exactly what it is, but that color combination is not working for me. Hmmm?

So there are just a few to start the wheels to turning, a little food for thought.

Spring Ahead

Don't forget to set your clocks ahead!

Is it just me or did this totally "spring" up on you too? I can't believe it's that time of year already. Once again, the year is already passing by very, very quickly. Every year seems to go by just a little faster than the year before. From what my Grandma says this is to be expected.

It reminds me that I must make the most of each day and seek God to help me prioritize my life by the things that are the most important. Each day is a gift, I pray that from this day forward I become a better steward of the time I have. I pray that each day I love my family better and I spend my time on things of real, eternal value. I pray that each day I would seek His will because only He knows what those things are.

Sometimes we as humans think that to do something important is to do something big and dramatic. I'm beginning to understand that sometimes the thing that God wants me to do, the thing that is most important to Him is to mop the floor so that it's nice when my husband gets home because this communicates love to him. Or maybe it's to sit with my children and read, stop from all the busyness, all the to do lists and just interact with them. Or maybe it's to go out of my way to help someone I know is in need today, whatever that need is, if it's one that He enables me to meet. These things sometimes seem like small things but I know in the whole scheme of life it's these things that really do mean the most.

So as we go into this new season let's try to make the most of the time we have been entrusted with and the people whose lives we touch. Let's dare to be a blessing.

Let the Waters Rise

This song has meant so much to me recently.

Several years ago I had a revelation moment come to me. I was on the back of a motorcycle. We had been riding all day with good friends of ours. I was exhausted and trying not to fall asleep on the back of this motorcycle for fear that I might just fall off. We were just around the corner from our home and I was trying to hang on just a few more minutes. I don't know exactly what triggered the thought, except that for me, those rides when we would roam all the beautiful back roads made me feel so close to God - seeing all His beautiful creation and being amazed at His awesomeness (for lack of a better word).

As we rounded the corner just before our neighborhood the thought came to me that God is not as concerned about my comfort as He is with my character. In fact, if He has to choose between my comfort and building my character He will choose to make me uncomfortable every time.

Why? Is He being cruel? Does He take pleasure in my pain? No. Because our character is what lasts and is what draws us closer to Him. He longs to be near us but He will never force Himself on us. Comfort doesn't last and most of the time, we're unwilling to move or change when we're comfortable.

So since that very first acknowledgment of such an idea I have dealt with this head on in life situations. I've come to realize in further searching that life is uncomfortable and sometimes even downright painful. I don't like this and as all human beings, my natural tendency is to fight it. I like being comfortable, I like everything being the way I want it to be. But I am beginning to see that embracing this idea and allowing God to perform his perfect work in us is actually the better way. And I'm also finding that in surrendering to this that we are met there with His peace and joy even in the midst of life's storms. Just because we meet Him there doesn't mean the storm goes away every time, it simply means He will help us to get through it and He WILL be our deliver.

I like the imagery that is portrayed when iron is refined in a fire. It couldn't be molded or shaped or made into the tool the craftsman needs it to be without first going through the fire.

This song just reminds me, when I want to fight God's refining process, to surrender and trust Him - let the waters rise if you want them to, God I trust You.

My brother-in-law and his wife renewed their vows and had a baptismal service for their son all in one this past Saturday. Afterward there was a grand celebration at the restaurant/bar that the family owns - Matty's Alley. A great place for authentic Mexican food and live bands on weekend nights. They're located across from Nashville Auto Diesel College on Gallatin Pk. Check them out sometime.

My Boys:: January 2010

I took these pictures of the boys while we were in North Carolina visiting my Grandmother. We were hanging out in our room before bed one night and I decided to get out the camera and have some fun. My boys are the hardest subjects to take pictures of because they're very busy and I guess because I've had the camera in their face so much, they're not always the most cooperative but surprisingly they played along this time and we had a lot of fun.

This is Ian doing his infamous Iron Man pose. This little boy loves Iron Man!!!

I thought this pose was the perfect "little boy" pose as he gazes at his race car.

And I thought it looked nice in B&W too.

Ian was starting to get bored with the whole modeling thing. Can you tell?

Here he is being a good sport.

I don't know exactly what this little thing was, a bracelet of some sort I think, but this is what started the whole thing. One of them laid down and was looking at it like this and I was like, hold that pose. I love the way these two turned out!

And this is one of Grandma's cats, Sister Kitty is her name. The other one is a pretty golden color but he's not too social so I wasn't able to get one of him.

The boys are with two of my cousin's kids here. They absolutely love these kids. And so do I of course, they're really sweet kids. Abby asked me at one point if the boys were a handful. I said, you could say that.

Isaiah started the love fest by loving on Abby. He's a little lady's man already. Pray for us! :)

They raced to the mailbox to get Grandma's mail for her.

I've been wanting to share this with you and as I was sitting here finishing up something else I was reminded to do so. This is our pastor beginning the New Year's sermon series called Unwavering. This is the first of several sermons on this topic. To check out more you can visit here. There are only a couple of them there now but there will be more added. I think there was a total of four or five sermons in this series.

They are all very good, particularly in light of everything that is happening in our world and our society, the insecurity that has been created by an unstable economy and how that has affected each of us in our own lives. Hearing the words of wisdom that came through these messages has helped me look at my current set of circumstances through new eyes. I hope they do the same for you.

Personal Inspiration:: Love Cherishes

Day 10 and 11 of The Love Dare have made the biggest impact on me so far. They are all wonderful and as a whole, it is absolutely amazing but these two days just left a strong impression on me which is why I'm sharing them with you now.

Day 11 is titled Love Cherishes and begins with the scripture from Ephesians 5:28, "Husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies".

It begins by giving two scenarios for the reader to consider. It says, "A man's older car begins having serious trouble, so he takes it to a mechanic. After an assessment is made, he is told it will need a complete overhaul, which would tax his limited budget. Because of the expensive repairs, he determines to get rid of the car and spend his funds on a new vehicle. Seems reasonable, right?

Another man, an engineer, accidentally crushes his hand in a piece of equipment. He rushes to the hospital and has it x-rayed, finding that numerous bones were broken. Although frustrated and in pain, he willingly uses his savings to have it doctored and placed in a cast, then gingerly nurses it back to health over the following months. This, too, probably seems reasonable to you.

The problem within our culture is that marriage is more often treated like the first scenario. When your relationship experiences difficulty, you are urged to dump your spouse for a "newer model." But those who have this view do not understand the significant bond between a husband and wife. The truth is, marriage is more like the second scenario. You are a part of one another. You would never cut off your hand if it was injured but would pay whatever you could afford for the best medical treatment possible. That's because your hand is priceless to you. It is part of who you are.

And so is your mate. Marriage is a beautiful mystery created by God, joining two lives together as one. This not only happens physically but spiritually and emotionally. You start off sharing the same house, the same bed, the same last name. Your identity as individuals has been joined into one. When your spouse goes through a tragedy, both of you feel it. When you find success at your job, both of you rejoice. But somewhere along the way, you experience disappointment, and the sobering reality that you married and imperfect person sets in.

This, however, does not change the fact that your spouse is still a part of you. Ephesians 5:28-29 says, 'Husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it.'

This verse speaks to husbands, but notice how each member is viewed. They are both considered to be the same flesh. You must treat them with the same nurture and care that you treat yourself. When you show love to your spouse, you are showing love to yourself as well.

But there is a flip side to this coin. When you mistreat your mate, you are also mistreating yourself. Think about it. Your lives are now interwoven together. Your spouse cannot experience joy or pain, blessing or cursing, without it also affecting you. So when you attack your mate, it is like attacking your own body.

It's time to let love change your thinking. It's time for you to realize that your spouse is as much a part of you as your hand, your eye, or your heart. She, too, needs to be loved and cherished. And if she has issues causing pain or frustration, then you should care for these with the same love and tenderness as you would a bodily injury. If he is wounded in some way, you should think of yourself as an instrument that helps bring healing to his life.

In light of this, think about how you treat your spouse's physical body. Do you cherish it as your own? Do you treat it with respect and tenderness? Do you take pleasure in who they are? Or do you make them feel foolish or embarrassed? Just as you treasure your eyes, hands, and feet, you should treasure your spouse as a priceless gift.

Don't let the culture around you determine the worth of your marriage. To compare it with something that can be discarded or replaced is to dishonor God's purpose for it. That would be like amputating a limb. Instead, it should be a picture of love between two imperfect people who choose to love each other regardless.

Whenever a husband looks into the eyes of his wife, he should remember that 'he who loves his wife loves himself.' And a wife should remember that when she loves him, she is also giving love and honor to herself.

When you look at your mate, you're looking at a part of you. So treat her well. Speak highly of him. Nourish and cherish the love of your life."

So that's day 11 for you. I hope this helps and encourages someone else the way it did me.

I'm going to leave you with a couple of pictures from my recent trip to North Carolina to visit my Grandmother. She lives in a little town that is nestled in the Smoky Mountains. It's a beautiful place, very picturesque.

I love the vantage point of this picture because it really portrays the fact that it is a little town built in the midst of the mountains.

And this is a picture of where my hubby and I first met. We were both working for the Great Smoky Mountains Railway, almost twelve years ago. What a neat job that was. I got to ride to and from the Nantahala Gorge everyday during that summer. It's an amazing trip if you ever have the chance to go.

I had a wonderful time at the Premier Bride Networking Meeting that was held last night in Nashville. It was held at Events @ 1418. It's a really neat little event venue that I've driven by a number of times and thought, I would love to see inside. So last night I had the chance.

I met a number of wonderful people who also work in the wedding business, vendors in the floral business, the cake business, caterers, planners, paper and stationary designers, other photographers too, songwriters who specialize in writing you a special song for your big day and several representatives of other event venues as well.

I am excited about the contacts I made and I look forward to bringing you more information on each of them.

Personal Inspiration:: Love is Unconditional

Day 10 of The Love Dare states that love is unconditional. It starts by reminding us of Romans 5:8 which says that "God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

It says, "If someone were to ask you, 'Why do you love your wife?' or 'Why do you love your husband?' - what would you say?

Most men would mention their wife's beauty, her sense of humor, her kindness, her inner strength. They might talk about her cooking, her knack for decorating, or what a good mother she is.

Women would probably say something about their husband's good looks or his personality. They'd commend him for his steadiness and consistent character. They'd say they love him because he's always there for them. He's generous. He's helpful.

But what if over the course of years, your wife or husband stopped being every one of these things. Would you still love them? Based on your answers above, the only logical response would be "no." If your reasons for loving your spouse all have something to do with his or her qualities - and then those same qualities suddenly or gradually disappear - your basis for love is over.

The only way love can last a lifetime is if it's unconditional. The truth is this: love is not determined by the one being loved but rather by the one choosing to love.

The Bible refers to this kind of love by using the Greek word agape (pronounced uh-GOP-ay).

It differs from the other types of love, which are - phileo (friendship) and eros (sexual love). Both friendship and sex have an important place in marriage, of course, and are definitely part of the house you build together as husband and wife. But if your marriage totally depends on having common interests or enjoying a healthy sex life, then the foundation of your relationship is unstable.

Phileo and eros are more responsive in nature and can fluctuate based upon feelings. Agape love, on the other hand, is selfless and unconditional. So unless this kind of love forms the foundation of your marriage, the wear and tear of time will destroy it. Agape love is "in sickness and health" love, "for richer or poorer" love, "for better or worse" love. It is the only kind of love that is true love.

That's because this is God's kind of love. He doesn't love us because we are lovable but because He is so loving. The Bible says, "In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins" (1 John 4:10). If He insisted that we prove ourselves worthy of His love, we would fail miserably. But God's love is a choice He makes completely on His own. It's something we receive from Him and then share with others. "We love, because He first loved us" (1 John 4:19).

If a man says to his wife, "I have fallen out of love with you," he is actually saying, "I never loved you unconditionally to begin with." His love was based on feelings or circumstances rather than commitment. That's the result of building a marriage on phileo or eros love. There must be a stronger foundation than mere friendship or sexual attraction. Unconditional love, agape love, will not be swayed by time or circumstance.

That's not to say, though, that love which began for the wrong reasons cannot be restored and redeemed. In fact, when you rebuild your marriage with agape as its foundation, then the friendship and romantic aspects of your love become more endearing than ever before. When your enjoyment of each other as best friends and lovers is based on unwavering commitment, you will experience an intimacy that cannot be achieved any other way.

But you will struggle and fail to attain this kind of marriage unless you allow God to begin growing His love within you. Love that "bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things" (1 Corinthians 13:7) does not come from within. It can only come from God.

The Scriptures say that "neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:38-39). This is God's kind of love. And thankfully - by your choice - it can become your kind of love. But first you must receive it and share it.

And don't be surprised, when your spouse begins living confidently under its shade, if he or she doesn't become even more lovable to you than you remember. You will no longer say, 'I love you because...' You will now say, 'I love you, period.'"

The challenge for Day 10 is to do something out of the ordinary for your spouse - something that proves (to you and to them) that your love is based on your choice and nothing else. Wash her car. Clean the kitchen. Buy his favorite dessert. Fold the laundry. Demonstrate love to them for the sheer joy of being their partner in marriage.

It follows with a couple questions... "has your love in the past been based on your spouse's attributes and behavior, or on your commitment? How can you continue to show love when it's not returned in a way you hoped for?"

An added thought of my own... the past few weeks our pastor has been delivering a sermon series titled, Unwavering. This past Sunday he said that our economy is shaken. We all know that. He said that many of the things we have come to depend upon or put our security or trust in are being shaken in the earth. I know this is true in my own life personally and on a larger scale within our society. Pastor pointed out that the purpose of God's doing this is to show us that the only thing that is unshakable, the only thing that is immovable is Him. He is THE rock (2 Samuel 22).

All of the things mentioned at the beginning of this chapter from The Love Dare are shakable things. When life changes and tough times come, they have the ability and often times do change us. This of course can be for the better or for the worse depending upon our responses to these things but the only thing that will make sure our love for each other does not change is if we make the choice to love unconditionally.

I've found myself surprised sometimes at the changes I've seen in myself when circumstances change. For example, before I had kids, I thought myself to be a pretty level-headed, calm person in the face of difficulty and trial. Come to find out, when faced with the difficulty and trial that parenting can sometimes offer all my level-headedness and calm went out the window. I struggled with anxiety and fear like I had not known since I was a small child. It changed me in ways that were completely unexpected to me. So if they were unexpected to me then surely, they were probably unexpected to those around me as well. Just as I have changed through the years, I have watched my husband change too. There's been change for the positive in both of us and some change that's not been so positive but bottom line is if our love is based on temporal things that can and will change then it is not real love. It's based on what the other can do for us and that is selfishness. There is no place for selfishness in real love.

Now mind you, I have not perfected this. This is still a new concept for me, myself. However, I believe it is true and therefore I am going to give it all I've got and I am going to continue to draw on the love that God has extended to me so that I can extend that same kind of love to my husband. "For His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that [are requisite and suited] to life and godliness, through the [ full, personal] knowledge of Him Who called us by and to His own glory and excellence (virtue)." 2 Peter 1:3 (Amplified Bible)

I am so excited for this post! I love seeing what's new and happening for the new season! We've taken a look at several designers and their beautiful gowns but let's take a slight turn and look at bridal gown trends for 2010.

Higher Hemlines
We've seen a lot of these on here.

Maybe just a few strategically placed or covering part of the dress.

I've never been a big fan of this but I must say that I've seen quite of few of these that are very pretty.

Bows
Another popular trend this season.

Pleats or tiers
Very popular this season as we have seen in a lot of the designer gowns we've looked at.

Practical Pockets
Having graced gowns for a few seasons, pockets remained hot in 2009 and were prevalent on the runway for 2010. The style lends a casual vibe for relaxed events, and – perhaps best of all – it’s practical too, allowing brides to keep essentials like lip gloss or tissues on hand throughout the day.

Fifties Style Wedding Gowns
This trend is the one I am most excited about! I love the idea of throwback design. Here are a few great examples of this style. The one on the left is just perfect. I think it pulls off the vintage style flawlessly.

Bridget Mora of EzineArticles.com mentions in her summary of 2010 trends that in addition to the mass ruffles and big draped layers that flower appliques are also very popular. This has been very prominent wherever I have looked also.

Counting Again...

Well I'm back at the calorie counting again. I had gotten away from it and was doing ok for a while but then got really, really away from it over the last couple weeks so here I am again. I'm starting back at square one with the counting, that's the only way to get me back on track.

It really does work. I've lost 15 pounds doing it but it does take self discipline. Something I don't have an overabundance of but fortunately it is part of the fruit of the Spirit and therefore I draw upon His strength to help me do the things I can not do on my own.

And a beautiful picture always makes a post better. Would love to be here right now. I love the color of the water. Makes me think of Cozumel.

I found something really neat that I want to share with you planners out there. This is so much fun as well as a helpful planning tool. It's www.bridalcanvas.com. Go there. Create your own Inspiration Board. Below is a board that I put together as an example. The turquoise theme, of course, is my most favorite and so I had to go with that.

Anyway, you can upload your own pictures to Bridal Canvas or they have a large gallery that you can choose from. There are multiple sizes to choose from or create your own custom size. One tip though, make sure you sign up before beginning your creation. I was almost done with mine when I decided to upload pictures and to do so I needed to be signed in. I ended up losing the whole thing and having to start over, so SIGN IN FIRST. You can set it to music too and add it to your own blog, Facebook, Twitter or several other social network options they have available. Have fun and I hope you find this a helpful planning tool!!

Bridal Gown Designer:: Rivini

Here we are again with another look at wedding gown design. This time we’ll be looking at Rivini bridal gown designs. There are just a few in this collection but they are some of my favorites so far. Don’t forget that there are several trunk shows coming up in February and March at Faccio Bridal in Franklin where they feature Rivini and Lazaro designs as well as many others.

This one is ok. It’s not my favorite though. I think I liked the overall picture more than the dress.

I really like this one. The layers are not overdone.

I love the top of this dress. Very pretty.

I’m getting the idea Rivini is really into the strapless look. It is pretty. This dress is very classic looking. I like the lace and the dress in general.

More layers here. I like the picture.

I absolutely love this one. I wish she was standing to get a little better idea of the shape of the dress but from what I can tell it’s tight fitting to about the knee. I love the top and the retro/vintage style that this one has. And the picture is really neat too.

This one is very simple but I like it. I think it’s a little too plain to be “the one” for me, if I were choosing but I do like it.

As always, these are simply ideas, to help you decide what your style is, what you want to look for when searching for your perfectly you dress. Spend your money wisely and add your own unique and creative touches to make it beautifully you.

Bridal Gown Designer:: Melissa Sweet

So I know it’s been a while since my last post. Life has been busy. The holidays rolled around and rolled out all very quickly. I took a trip to visit my Grandmother. What a wonderful time that was - a little R&R on top of spending time with one of my most favorite people. I’ll post more on all of that real soon.

So here we are in a new year with new goals and new ideas plotted. I figured a new post on wedding gown design was overdue so here I am to deliver another segment, this time featuring wedding gown designs from designer Melissa Sweet. In my search for vintage style dresses she is the first I came across and she has some really beautiful designs.

Now, remember as always, these posts are not to promote a specific designer necessarily but to spark ideas for those seeking to find just the right style they’re looking for. You want to spend your money wisely and make unique and creative additions to the dress you ultimately choose.

Don’t forget that there are several trunk shows coming up in February and March at Faccio Bridal in Franklin where they feature Rivini and Lazaro designs as well as many others.

This is not something I would traditionally pick but I like it. I’m not completely sold on the skirt part I think that’s what makes it different. The more I look at it the more it grows on me.

Maddie:: I really like this one. Again, it’s not what I would traditionally
pick but it’s very cute and sexy I think.

The next one didn’t have a name available which I don’t like because I think dresses should have names. They’re prettier when they have names. But anyway, the bridesmaids dresses here are so cute. I absolutely love the color! Turquoise-ish shades of blue are my favorite colors and this one is perfect. Totally what I would have for my own wedding if I were having one again. We did red, white and black for our wedding (Nebraska Cornhuskers colors for the hubby). It was pretty but if we ever renew our vows it’ll be these colors.

Mykonos:: This is kind of simple but I like it. Not completely in love with it but I like it.

Santorini::

Verona:: I wish this was a full-length picture. The style is cute. I like the simplicity and the vintage look of it. The simplistic gathering and bow coupled with the gloves makes it very retro stylish. If I could see what the whole thing looks like I think it might be my favorite. The headpiece is a little overwhelming for my taste as big as it is but I like the idea. It adds to the retro look also.

~Expert tailoring is available on site from a couture seamstress. We firmly believe that the service shouldn't end when your gown arrives-tailoring is the most important part! Besides, who wants to drag their bridal gown all over town?!?!

~We gladly store your gown at no charge.

~Pressing for your first try-on, portrait, and wedding day are complimentary. We consider it an honor to prepare your gown for the most important day.

I had never thought of this before but she offers really good ideas to keep in mind when planning your big day, that you will look back at through the years as styles and trends change.

There is so much that has been written about trendy wedding looks. When I think of trendy weddings, I think of my Aunt Nancy’s 1985 nuptials. As was the trend at the time, her hair defied gravity and logic. It is humorous, actually, to look back at the wedding pictures. In fact, it is hard to notice anything but how out of style that look is now. Truth be told, trends come and go and weddings are supposed to last a lifetime. Why is it then that many brides look for the hottest fad for their wedding look? At Four Winds Weddings & Events, we believe that a classic, timeless look actually enhances a wedding. Listed below are several of our general rules of thumb regarding wedding trends.

1.)Don’t pull a Lady Gaga. Express yourself with creative decor and not outlandish couture.
2.)Makeup should be elegant and understated. You are beautiful just how your are!
3.)Keep your wedding party in check. It seems as though there is a trend towards having a gazillion bridesmaids. Keep your number at 5 or less.

Why does wedding photography cost so much?
Speaking for myself anyway, I put at least 40 hours of work into a single wedding. Most of this is work done behind the scenes - editing and organizing, getting pictures posted online for viewing, album and slideshow designs, etc.

I also have my own personal expenses that go into my being able to do photography at all, childcare and an assistant to help me with all of the above.

There is also the photographer's cost for the products they provide to their clients. If you're receiving something of quality, which I know I make sure is what I'm delivering to my clients, it starts out pricey, even at my cost. I love what I do and I wish I could do it for free. I was a young, poor bride when I was getting married. I know what that's like. But unfortunately, it costs to live and I am in this to make money. :)

Looking back on my own wedding, if I had it to do all over again, I would have taken the $1,000 I spent on my wedding dress (which was the most money spent for my wedding - everything else was done as simply and inexpensively as absolutely possible) and spent it instead on a photographer. I know, I know surely I say that because I am a photographer. No, the reason I say this is because for the past 10 years that very expensive dress has hung in my closet. My pictures are all I have left of my wedding day and I now show those to my children and will someday be sharing them with my grandchildren. I look at what I do as something that will last for generations to come. This is not just another day. It is your wedding day. A day you will look back on for years to come and will tell your children and grandchildren about. Invest in it wisely, keeping in mind what will last and what won't.

What primary photographic style do you identify with?
Contemporary, Photojournalism, Portraiture

What do your packages include?
Albums, Custom Graphic Design, Digital Files, Flush Mount, High Resolution Images, Matted Prints, Prints, Thank You Cards, Video Montage

Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
Black and White, Sepia, Vintage Look.

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
I have experience with all lighting situations. My personal favorite light is late day glow outdoors for the beauty that it adds to the image but I can work in any.

Is your media preference film or digital?
I shoot strictly digital. I love it.

How many photographers do you work with?
It is primarily me and I sometimes employ a second photographer when needed.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Yes, it's me you get every time.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
No, I like to provide my best to my clients, the best products and the best of me. I can't do this if I stretch myself too thin. I try not to book more than a couple weekends (1 wedding a weekend) per month because my family is still very young and needs my time and attention too. I won't be giving you or them my best if I do more than that.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Yes, I have other photographers whose skill I am confident in that I can call upon.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
All camera related equipment, multiple memory cards and batteries, ladders, blankets (so dresses don't get dirty), anything I can think of to help with the outcome of our images and your overall experience. Tissue for teary eyes, makeup for touch-ups, bug spray to keep the pests away.

Do you charge hourly or full day?
My packages start at 6 hours of coverage the day of event from there I have an option available that allows you to upgrade to a full day if necessary. It just depends upon your needs and what kind of coverage you're looking for.

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
Yes. I will charge overtime if the need arises but I will always ask first and proceed with your instruction, I will never assume and start billing. I charge $100 per extra hour of shooting.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
I usually take a break while everyone is eating at the reception and prefer a light meal. I do this at this time because mouths are full and most people prefer not to have their picture taken then. I also use this time to put together a special "surprise".

Do you charge for travel?
I do charge for travel, the charge varies of course by location and expenses involved but I do love to travel. If you would like further information please contact me to work out details.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
I try to provide proofs as soon as possible. This normally takes between a week and two weeks. Because I know you're excited to see your pictures as soon as possible I have started providing a sneak peak slideshow available to my clients no later than the day after the event.

In what format are the initial proofs offered?
I prefer an in person meeting so that I can present you with your proof book and go over what you would like in your package final product options. I also have the option of online gallery available.

How long can the client keep the proofs?
The proof book that comes with your package is yours to keep. Online proofs remain for 60 days with the option of extending the site after that.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
Yes but copyright release can be purchased.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
Yes.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
The digital negatives can be purchased.

Will images be available for viewing online?
As I explained above online viewing is optional.

What kind of albums do you offer?
I offer Vision Art Coffee Table books which you can view here. They are beautiful contemporary, yet classic looking, flush-mount (means that they lay flat when opened with very little crease) books. They are very substantial, quality made photo art books.

When will the client get the final album?
I will design the album, submit the design to you for review, will make any necessary changes and then submit the album for printing. My album company takes about a week to a week and a half to print, bind and deliver the finished album. So all in all, the process can take up to 4 to 5 weeks.

New Revelation:: Couple's Chore List

After 10 years of marriage I just got an idea... one I thought I would share because I think it would have been helpful the very first day of marriage.

When it comes to chores, start now, make a list of all the chores and assign who's responsible for that chore getting done. You don't consciously think about it but because of how you were raised and which parent did what around the house you have certain preconceived notions as to who should do what in your new home. You subconsciously think that your husband "knows" that that is a "man's" job and so he would never expect you to take care of it when the reality is he's wondering why, in several months you've made no attempt to take care of this thing. You're wondering the same thing and you're quietly (or maybe not so quietly) getting upset with him because apparently he's not the man you thought you were marrying since he won't take care of his "manly" responsibilities. He's wondering if he married a spoiled, lazy brat. And resentment begins to grow. All of which could be avoided with a simple conversation about who should regularly care for what.

This is not to mean that you can't help one another and if your plate is full and you need help and your spouse is where they can help you then by all means ask for their help and look for ways to help them. But getting your expectations of one another laid out in black and white will save a world of trouble down the road. And we all have expectations of one another.

Random Thought for the Day:: Study Your Spouse

Many times we treat our marriages the way a lazy kid in school treats his schoolwork. He doesn't want to do the work and so he does just enough to get by. In marriages I think it's more that sometimes we're naive and think that it's not necessary or optional. Or we convince ourselves that it'll be ok or we're doing enough already. Or we convince ourselves that our problems are all the other person's fault and they would just stop doing or start doing what they should then everything would be okay.

I used to think that way and being completely honest, I still do sometimes. It's easy for us to think that way. Several years ago when I was going through a really tough time in my own marriage I began reading the book "The Power of a Praying Wife" by Stormie Omartian. The very first chapter is titled Praying for His Wife. She says that we have a tendency to pray "God, change him". She said there's nothing wrong with praying for our husbands, after all that is what the book is about but she said our prayers should start with and always include the prayer, "God, change me". She says when you do that you begin to see things that you can do differently that will impact the situation and cause things to change for the good. I decided after reading this to put it to the test. I'll be honest, it's not easy. I was very good at the God change him prayers. But when I began to pray that way I did become aware of things that I needed to change, big time and it did make things better. And when I began to make those changes it inevitably caused positive change in my husband. It's a domino effect and God knows this, that's why he asks us to humble ourselves and start with the one person we can change and then he'll change the one that we can't.

I would submit that our marriage relationships are important enough for us to study and learn all that we can to improve them and make them the best they can possibly be. Timothy tells us in the Bible to "study to show thyself approved". He was referring to the Word of God but I think this applies to anything that is important and that we want to do well. We should, of course start with the Word and find out what it says about marriage. Then find other resources provided by men and women of God who have studied these things in depth, particularly taking note of the differences between men and women. I know we've all heard it said before but men and women think completely different. They're motivated by different things and interpret the same words differently. Learning how to better understand the person we're sharing life with can only stand to benefit everyone involved, including ourselves. It's worth the investment of time and attention and you'll be amazed at the changes you see in your marriage when you begin to apply what you learn. This applies to even the deadest of relationships. It's amazing what God will do on our behalf when we couple together our willingness with His power and ability. Psalm 34:8 "O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusts in him."

Random Thought for the Day:: Challenged to Change

Ok, I'm going to just shoot straight here and say what's on my mind. God has really been on my case lately. Just sayin'. He has. Like challenging me and stuff. I don't like it to be honest. I know what He's telling me is right and good and all but quite frankly I'm sitting here thinking, "like seriously, you want me to do this? You do know how you made me right? You do know that you're asking me to think backwards and upside down from the way in which you made me to think right?" So I'm processing. I'm pondering and I'm analyzing. After all that is what I do.

It's funny though. As He starts dealing with me on certain stuff and I start to become convinced to try it His way, it gets hard. Like for example, one thing He's dealing with me on is my mouth in my marriage. So I start to try to tame it, which by the way, The Word says is the hardest part of the body to tame - it's likened to a wild fire (and I can testify), and all of a sudden it starts taking on a mind of its own, blurting stuff out before I have a chance to even recognize that there's a thought there. So here I go... another day, another attempt. Holy Spirit, help me do better tomorrow! Goodnight!!

For this segment of bridal gown design we're going to look at designer Augusta Jones. I found several beautiful gowns of hers. Not all of them can be donned with the "vintage" description but there are a few and those are my favorites. Just for the record, the names of these gowns are really cool names I think.

Family Session:: Cassidy, Mikel and Aidan

I did a recent family shoot for Cassidy and her boys, Mikel and Aidan. They are a couple of cute little guys. I enjoyed watching them and listening to them talk about the "treat" they were going to get for being good boys. They told me all about Thomas the train and Spiderman. Fortunately I am not new to little boy lingo so we were able to shoot the breeze about all the big name heros. For being busy little guys as they are they did very well for their shoot and I enjoyed them thoroughly. Cassidy, you have a couple of precious little men on your hands. I'm sure you didn't need me to tell you that though. :D

Everybody, including mom, had fun playing with the dandelions.

I'm amazed at how kids are drawn to these things, boys or girls alike, they're just plain and simple fun.

Cassidy brought a couple different shirts for the boys and hung the extras on the tree. I just thought they looked so picturesque blowing in the wind, hanging from the tree.

Hello! Happy Sunday! Ok, so I've had in mind for a while that I want my blog to be informative for my readers and help them with some of their planning. My hope is to regularly post good ideas that will be helpful in the wedding planning process.

What better place to start, I thought, than with bridal gowns. I think this is probably the most exciting part for every bride. The idea of looking most beautiful and oh so glamorous. So I started out looking for the type of gown I would look for if I were picking. I love my wedding gown, it was beautiful but my tastes have changed since I first picked it out 10 years ago so I thought it would be fun to look as though I were picking now. I've had in mind, after seeing a couple "inspiration dresses", one of which was not even a wedding dress, of what I would want a dress to look like now.

So let me begin by posting a couple pics of the "inspiration dresses" and describing just what I was looking for. In the process of coming into photography over the past few years I have discovered the style of photography that most inspires me and as a result of pinpointing my photography tastes that same style has spilled over into the rest of my life. That style is a vintage, heirloom style that I just get tickled pink over. In searching for "just the right dress" I came across another "looker's" post asking where to find Audrey Hepburn style wedding dresses. I absolutely love that description and so I sought out "that look". So here are my "inspiration dresses".

These are images taken by excellent husband/wife photography team Justin & Mary Marantz. I just thought this first dress was so pretty and I love the detail pic.

These next two pictures were taken by Justin and Mary but the subjects are themselves an awesome husband/wife photography team - Zach and Jody Gray. As soon as I saw these pictures I fell in love with Jody's dress.

Again, just love the detail.

Here is the first of my many finds. I could have spent a lot longer looking but I've got to sleep sometime. These are all dresses from bridal gown designer, Lazaro. There will be more from other designers in future posts.

Can you tell I'm into the layers? Never thought I would have but I am loving them.

I love the top of this dress, similar to Jody's above.

The belted look has really grown on me too and I have seen this quite a bit. I also love the silhouette of this dress. Of course, the silhouette might not be quite the same if the dress was on me but hey, a girl can dream right?!?!

This one doesn't fully fall into the vintage look category but there's still something "Audrey Hepburn" about it to me.

Absolutely loving this one!! It has such a Victorian vibe I think.

This is the above dress. I thought the back was pretty.

Here's the belted look again and I've seen a lot of colored belts or sashes to match the wedding colors.

This next one is very pretty. I just love the detail of it which can be seen in the second picture.

When I first saw this one I wasn't sure if I liked it or not but it has grown on me. The little "jacket" and the silhouette also make me think of that classic movie star style.

Family Session:: The Montgomerys

I had the great pleasure of photographing some of our really good friends and their family over the weekend. When we lived in Winston-Salem, NC several years ago I worked with Stacy at BB&T. We became friends very clickly and soon started hanging out as couples. Stacy and Newell were engaged at the time and Tony and I had only been married for about a year. We really enjoyed the time we spent with Stacy and Newell and shared many, many laughs. When it came time for us to move to Tennessee I knew I would miss Stacy and Newell and I have. Well life got busy, they had a precious little girl, Meaghan. We saw them once or twice before Meaghan was born and then made a trip over to see her when she was a couple months old.

That was five years ago and although we had talked many times about getting together, life and busy-ness kept us from doing so. Finally we started making plans again a couple months ago and they came out this past weekend to stay with us. They now have two precious little girls, adding Madelyn to their family a couple of years ago.

It was great to spend time with them and Stacy and I talked like we always did. It's amazing how a friendship can just pick right back up like no time was lost at all and that's what we did. We also had to do some refereeing, something we didn't have to do back then but with four small children who all think the world revolves around them, it's necessary. That wasn't that bad either. They're all precious little people and each one of them a blessing.

Anyway, Stacy had asked if I would take some family pictures of them and I was honored to do so. We got out there during my favorite light of the day, that beautiful golden light just before the sun sets and the combination of beautiful sunlight mixed with a beautiful family made for many beautiful pictures. Here are my favorites:

Ok, ok I know it has been way too long since my last post. Life has been busy, what can I say. Well here I am with my favorite pictures from Kathy's sweet 16 birthday party taken a couple weeks ago. Kathy is my husband's little cousin and as you can see from her pictures below she is a beautiful young woman who was just a little girl the other day. Seriously, where does the time go and why does it have to go so fast?

Fall Portrait Mini Sessions

I originally planned this for the 24th but my husband informed me that there will be championship football games that day for Duck River Valley Youth Football League which we hope will include all of our teams from MTCS.

MTCS Picture Orders

I received the first round of MTCS picture orders back from the lab toward the end of last week and have been working on getting packages put together. I'm working diligently to get those done so that I can hand them out at practices tomorrow afternoon for those who have ordered.

For those who have not yet ordered, it is not too late. I will be getting the proofs for the Flag team back to them in the next couple days as well and then will be accepting orders for them and anyone else who didn't get their order turned in for the first group of orders submitted. Life and Relationships

Maybe the following words won't impart any deep wisdom on you, the reader, but they did for me when I first took hold of them so I thought I would put them out there and maybe they can be of some help to someone else. I had this disillusioned idea that some people just have it easy, that some lives are just good and always good because sometimes looking from the outside in, there are some lives that look like that. I've learned that's not the case, we all have our struggles and we all face the fact that life, simply put, is hard.

Life and Relationships are hard. They're not always hard fortunately but they are always a mixture of both for everyone. There's good and there's bad and sometimes you have to fight through the bad to get to the good or it will never come - you'll miss out on the good that waits on the other side.

Sometimes it's hard to keep this in mind when you're going through the struggle but it is essential to overcoming the struggle successfully and not allowing it to overtake you.

God is Great, God is Good...

Just now as I sat down to write this I was reminded of a childhood song. As the words rushed to my mind my response was instantly, "yes, that's what I want to say". The song goes..."My God is so great, so strong and so mighty, there's nothing my God can not do. My God is so great, so strong and so might, there's nothing my God can not do. The mountains are His, the rivers are His, the stars are His handy-work too. My God is so great, so strong and so mighty, there's nothing my God can not do." If I don't say anything else at all that would do it. That would sum up what's on my heart this morning.

For the last two evenings I sat in on a seminar given by Bruce Wilkinson, the author of the Prayer of Jabez. What he taught and the words he spoke were very powerful. It might leave some to criticize and it leaves many uncomfortable because stepping out of our comfort zone, in faith, to do something God has called us to do, is many times... uncomfortable, scary and uncertain. But this, of course, is when we must exercise our faith (or trust) in God the most. It was a very powerful, challenging message for me and as a result I have a renewed excitement for the things of God and what He is doing and about to do. I am excited for some things that I see Him doing in and around me and I just ask that He will help me to move forward with Him in spite of my discomfort or uncertainty. I don't want to be left behind because I wouldn't choose to trust Him. I want to be a part of His amazing adventure.

One thing I've learned is that even when I "chicken out" He doesn't love me any less(His love is still very great toward me) and He won't force me to do ANYTHING, but I will miss out on certain blessings He longs to give me. He wants me to be a part of what He's doing. He wants me to partner with Him. Not because He can't do it Himself but because He wants to share it with me. He wants me to be a part of it. And that's what He wants for each and every child He created.

He loves you very much and I know things don't always make sense but that's because we see dimly right now. We don't have the whole picture. One day we will and then it will all come together. But now is the time to make the choice of whether or not we will believe Him. At that point in time, when it all makes sense and all is revealed, it will be too late to make our decision. He asks us to trust Him. Will you trust Him? Will I trust Him the next time He makes a request of me? I pray that we will!

Broken Toes and Broken Hearts

I was thinking about some things recently. Thinking about husbands and wives and marriage and relationships in general. I was thinking about how a hurt that occured before two people ever knew each other can creep up and effect that very relationship. Sometimes we try to think of things so black and white that we would like to think that the past hurt should be left in the past and it shouldn't effect today's relationship. As easy as that could make things I'd like to offer the thought that I don't think it's quite that simple.

I think a broken toe and a broken heart have something in common. If you are walking alongside someone who's toe was broken years earlier and you had nothing to do with the original incident but happen to step on that toe today - that place that is sensitive from the first offense, there's a good chance that it's going to hurt that toe again today. Now, you didn't mean to step on their toe, in was a complete accident but whether you meant to or not, it happened and it hurt. Would you simply shrug your shoulders and say, oh well, it's not my problem, that toe was broken before I ever knew you, I didn't do it. Or would you sincerely say I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you.

Around the Table

As I mentioned a couple days ago my sister and her family are with us for the week. So far it's been a great visit. I actually think it's been the best so far as we haven't made big, elaborate plans. The only plan was to hang out and spend time together. So far that plan is working out very well, in my opinion anyway. My sister and I haven't had the opportunity to just sit and talk like this in a long time. Over the last few years that we've been getting our two families together we're usually busy tending to kids and what has to have our attention still, even though we're on vacation so it's been tough finding time just to talk. My boys are getting to the age where I don't have to be right on top of them so they're able to hang out upstairs with the big kids and play and stay out of trouble for the most part. It's been so nice! Last night the guys took the kids to play so my sister and I could fix dinner. We had such a nice time, chatting and cooking together. It's been a really great visit and I'm very thankful for it. We've spent a lot of time, all of us just sitting around the kitchen table talking and laughing, laughing and talking. That's the best. The older I get that is the "fun" I long for. I am so glad to have my sister here. I wish it were like this all the time. Maybe someday...

A Good Day...

Today is a good day. I woke up this morning with a smile on my face and excited for the new day. I should wake up like this everyday because I have many things to be thankful for. At the top of the list of course are my two precious little boys who are absolutely a blessing even on our worst day and also their cute, funny, little daddy - he's a blessing most of the time. :) Just kidding, all the time.

Anyway, today is a particularly good day because in addition to having them here in my home I also have my sister, her husband and their two boys here with me also. I love my sister so much and we don't get to see each other but maybe a couple times a year because she lives in Florida and I live in Tennessee and even our conversations by email have become sparse because we're both busy but it doesn't change the fact that I love my sister so much.

So today is a good day. Yesterday was a good day because they arrived and I was on the ball having everything ready for their arrival. Then to make it especially good my sister, my mom and I were able to sit and chat for several hours with very little interruption. For someone with two 3 year olds this huge!!! It was so wonderful too. We talked and talked and shared things that we had never had the opportunity to share before. And for me just to be able to sit down and have some girl time was much, much needed.

So this week, while they are here, is going to be a good week. I can already tell. Having them here is always good but I can tell this trip is going to be special. Thank You, Father, for the opportunity to spend time with family and thank You for blessing me with the family you have. Thank you that even in the family dysfunctions you provide deliverance and freedom and LOVE most of all!!! You are an awesome God and I praise You!!!

And for the best in the floral business check out Belles Fleurs. I first met Bonnie of Belles Fleurs last year at the Love is in the Air Bridal Fair at Cool Springs Galleria. Her arrangements are absolutely beautiful. At the end of the show when we were cleaning up she gave me one of her bouquets to take home with me. She must have seen me eye balling it. It lasted quite a while and everyone who saw it just raved at how beautiful it was. I can honestly say her work is the prettiest I've ever seen and she is very sweet to work with too. The first time I heard it they were still very small, tiny in fact, and it was one of those that I just knew was written for me to express what I was feeling at the time. I just got done viewing this video on another blog I came across. This is the most beautiful wedding video I have ever seen. If the time comes that Tony and I ever renew our vows this will be what I will search for when it comes to videography.

And listening to this minister makes me think I'll need to contact James Earl Jones to do the officiating. :) Love his voice!!

I love this song! It's so me. I have been known to be very clumsy at times and some might even say that I occasionally have a "blonde" moment. So it's good to know that with my Heavenly Father, I'm free to be me and He loves me in spite of my imperfections. Gosh, it sure is refreshing to be reminded of that, especially when it can be easy to get overwhelmed sometimes by feeling inadequate. God is good and He fills in the missing pieces of me.

Kimberly & Gary:: The Wedding

They're here - Kimberly and Gary's wedding pictures that is!! I have had a blast working with Kimberly and Gary. They have been so great to work with! I had so much fun shooting their engagement session and I was blessed to be a part of their special day. I enjoyed getting to meet and spend time with each of the friends and family that I met on their day as well. Everyone was so gracious and fun to be with. And the love that these two have for family and their family for them was especially heart warming.

Just as the ceremony was beginning and Kimberly pulled up in her horse drawn carriage rain drops began to fall and quickly turned from a few drops into a down poor. Kimberly's Mother and sister were only worried about one thing - how Kimberly was doing. As soon as they found out that nothing was going to stop her from smiling on her wedding day, they were ok to smile too. The rain lasted only a few minutes and we were able to wait it out and then proceed as planned. Some might think rain on a wedding day would ruin things. I personally think it made it that much better. Besides Kimberly and Gary's smiles provided all the sunshine we needed.

Kimberly and Gary, I wish you two a life full of love and happiness and I pray many blessings on your marriage and the years to come. Thank you for allowing me the priviledge of capturing your special day!

Random Thoughts:: Memories & Questions

This particular post is a couple of random thoughts that I had today thrown together so pardon the hodge podge.

Memory:: My Grandpa.

My memory was triggered today of a day long ago when I was a little girl and spending time with my Grandparents and my cousin who I was very close to growing up. How my memory was triggered is a funny story...

I was standing in the pantry today with my two boys as we were perusing the shelves when Isaiah says, "Mommy, burp". Now mind you, I teach my boys that this is rude and to say excuse me when it happens but it happens none the less. I said well honey, Mommy can't do that and he said uh huh. I proceeded to tell him that I've never been able to make myself burp, only if I drink something carbonated does it happen. He then says, "let me show you". Mind you this is a 3 years old who is "showing me" how to do this. I couldn't help but laughed and I said I see and reminded him to say excuse me, etc.

Where the memory comes in is that I had this same conversation, oh more than 20 years ago with my cousin, Matt when we were just kids. We were very close growing up but he being, very much a boy, would do things that I didn't understand sometimes and making himself burp was one of them. He tried to show me over and over again how to do it but I just never could do it and like my Isaiah he was convinced I should be able to. The funniest part about the whole thing was that one day as Matt and I were having this conversation my Grandpa joined in the discussion and as I thought that he was going to chime in and tell Matt how rude he was for burping, he instead joins in and begins to show us both how he can make himself burp too. I was blown away. I still kind of am because that kind of thing just wasn't like my Grandpa but it sure makes for a funny memory. A memory that makes me smile and miss him again.

Question:: Why do some of kids' most favorite foods come on sticks?

I was pondering this idea today after my boys had corn dogs for lunch and then a popcycle for snack. After I caught myself giving out warning after warning about being "careful with that stick", "sit down", "don't run with that stick", I couldn't help but wonder who the genious was that came up with those ideas? I mean most young children have a hard time sitting still for very long so hey, let's give them a stick that they're going to put in their mouth while they're also bouncing off the walls! :) So anyway, that's it. Just pondering the big questions in life you know!! Goodnight!! Happy Thursday!!

My Idea of Heaven

I was just taking a few minutes to check on the blogs I follow and happened by Gray Photography's blog. They have this song playing on their website and posted the video there to be seen. I love this song! And just as they mentioned, the old couple at the end of the video is precious - they brought me to tears they're so sweet! This is my idea of heaven - Tony and I feeling the same way they do when we get to that point in life.

We had a nice date night last night. My Mom was nice enough to keep the boys for us last night and they spent the night with Nana so we roamed around Opry Mills for a while, bought us both a new pair of shoes because the shoes I wore were terribly uncomfortable so I bought a pair of flip flops to take their place (the older I get the more comfort champs fashion). Then we ate at Tony Roma's and had a delicious steak with garlic sauteed green beans and creamy potato soup. Then we contemplated a movie and decided we just felt like going home and watching "Mall Cop" that we already had here at the house. It was simple and it was sweet. I love my hubby and I'm thankful that God has brought us through some rough stuff and has helped us both to grow up some (although there's still more to do) and brought us to a place that I had wondered if we would ever get to. Not that it's all perfect all the time but I must say that it just keeps getting better.

Movie Review:: Marley & Me

I absolutely love this movie. It's a new favorite. I love Jennifer Anniston and Owen Wilson together. They're great onscreen together. Now be warned that it is a little sad but it's so much more sweet than sad. I love the relationship dynamics and I sware some of the conversations and/or arguments that "John" (Owen Wilson) and "Jenny" (Jennifer Anniston) have in this movie are exact repeats of some of mine and my husband's. It's too funny to watch.

While the movie is a sweet love story it's also very funny as you can see from the trailer. To view the trailer click on the title of this post.

There is a comment that "Jenny" makes to "John" after having a hard day with the kids and Marley. She says "I just think these things (hard times) are going to come and we're going to get through them, together. Even if they're harder than we thought, we made a choice and we'll get through them." I love this comment.

Anyway, do yourself a favor and watch the trailer and then rent the movie the next time you're in need of a movie night. :)

Monica and Cary:: The Wedding

That morning when Monica awoke it was cloudy outside and the weather forecast was dreary. She sighed deeply and said a little prayer determined that even though she had hoped for bright, blue skies on her wedding day, this would no less be the best day of her life. The day that she would marry her best friend, Cary.

She did marry Cary that day and God gave them a present. He answered Monica's prayer for bright, blue skies much to everyone's surprise. It was a beautiful day filled with vivid color and beautiful, happy faces, loving families and warm friends. It was a day that won't soon be forgotten.

I recently had the pleasure of shooting some pictures for a friend's little girl, Samantha. She is 18 months old and cute as a button. She was so sweet and had no problem with me following her around as she played with dandelions and explored.

I just love her little details. I have two boys so I enjoy the little girl stuff.

Her shoe kept coming off so her mommy decided to leave it off. She wasn't having that so she plopped down and started trying herself.

Beauty for Ashes

Isaiah 61:1-4 has recently become some of my favorite scripture. I've been reading "Breaking Free" by Beth Moore which is an awesome, amazing book. She bases the book on Isaiah 61:1-4. In verse 3 it says "to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair." I have witnessed God do this very thing in my own life.

In January of 2001 my father passed away. The news was devastating. The loss of a relationship that had always been distant at best was now gone forever without any further possibility of growth, making the good memories I have with him that much sweeter. My heart was broken in a way it had never known before. My eyes poured tears many nights while my chest ached so bad I could barely catch my breath at times. It was a hurt deeper than any I had ever felt previously.

I have a sister, Shana, who is four years older than I am. She was raised by my father's parents and I was raised by my mother. Through the years we would visit my grandparents and my sister and I have many fond memories of those times together. Chocolate ice cream for dessert at Denney's after a grilled cheese sandwich was my usual back then. I loved spending time with my sister. I always looked up to her. She was the coolest thing since sliced bread in my book.

During our teen years we kind of lost touch. My mom and I had moved back and forth between Florida and North Carolina and somewhere in all of that my sister and I just lost touch. I dreamed of a time when we might be able to be as sisters are supposed to be. Maybe one day when we both have our own children we'll be able to walk side by side through a shopping center with our strollers in tow, doing what girls do best - shopping. Maybe we will be able to share many conversations over a hot cup of tea or a fragrant glass of wine. This was a dream that remained nicely tucked away in the corners of my mind.

When my father passed away it had been quite a while since I had seen or spoken to my sister. She called me that day, to give me the news. Little did we know at the time but that dreadful, awful occasion was the start of that dream.

I love my sister immensely and I need her. We usually keep in contact through email mainly as loud children in the background make phone conversation difficult. Here lately though we've both been extremely busy and not able to communicate so I thought recently that I need to let her know how much she means to me. It's through conversation and spending time together that I learn about myself while also learning about her and other family that I haven't known as well as she has through the years. The last several years our families have vacationed together and last year we were very fortunate, thanks to my hubby, to be able to spend several days together, just the two of us, on a cruise to Cozumel. We've made a lot of really good memories over the last several years and I look forward to many, many more. Shana, I just want you, need you to know that I thank God for you.

End of the Day:: Thoughts

The last several days I have wrestled with computer problems. Well yesterday my husband wrestled and discovered that it is my laptop that holds the problem. It's not the internet connection or a specific program, it is in fact my computer. But what is the problem and what is the solution? That is still yet to be determined. So in the mean time my husband got me set up on our old desktop computer to get done what I need to get done.

I had several things looming over my head as a result when I began my day yesterday and I felt anxiety over trying to figure out how to get them done. I just felt like I had to be doing something toward that effort even though my husband had my computer with him and there really wasn't anything I could do. So I prayed knowing that if I let it, this anxiety could rob my whole day. I said, "Father, you know these things that I need to get done, you know that there are people waiting for me to get these things done, please fix my computer and help me to get done today what You want me to. And if I am supposed to focus my energy on my children or my home instead, help me to do that, help me to get in that gear."

When the day was done and I had not gotten any of those things that I felt were so pressing accomplished (because I still had no way of getting them accomplished), but I had spent 3 hours playing at McDonald's outdoor playland with the boys, I stood at the kitchen sink last night getting my coffee pot ready and I knew that I had done exactly what I was supposed to do for that particular day. It was a really amazing feeling. When I take the time and make the choice to give something to God I am always so surprised and amazed at how He gives back.

Anyway, just a quick little thought for the day.
